The Flexible Olympic Logo
Nov 25th
The 2012 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in London (England), next year from 27 July to 12 August. The logo for the grand occasion has been designed by Wolf Olins and costs about 400,000 pounds. This new logo design is a representation of the digits in the year 2012 with the Olympic Rings embedded within.
For the first time, the Olympics logo is going to be used for both Olympic and Paralympic games. The standard colours that the logo will appear are green, magenta, orange and blue. The logo is, however, flexible enough to incorporate many other colours as well to enable sponsors to merge their corporate colours and create a personalized version of the same logo.
There was another logo created for the bidding process which was created by the Kino Design (this is not the brand identity of the Olympic Games). This logo shows a ribbon with blue, yellow, black, green,. And red stripes twisting around the letters and digits in ‘LONDON 2012”. The ribbon depicts the shape of the River Thames in London.

What logo to Choose
Nov 23rd
When it comes to logo creation, how should a company choose between a word-mark, and a symbol? Here are some effective tips for you:
You can consider a symbol when:
- You cannot translate/pronounce your name easily or when it is too generic, or too long to be used as a logo and when it lacks a global approach.
- When you product needs an emblem on it to differentiate it from others. (sports products/vehicles etc)
- You need to relate the sub-companies/products to the parent company without repeating the logo.
- There is enough time, space and method available to use and make familiar the logo.
Consider a word-mark when:
- Your company/product name is distinctive and attractive.
- The sub-company/products require the support of the parent companies name/logo/reorganization.
- You want your company/product to be recognized by the name.
