Perfect packaging is advertising by itself. The purpose of a well designed package is not just handle and protect the product inside, it’s much more. Here is a case study on the evolution of the renowned brand Coca Cola.
Have you noticed the use of the bottle shape in the logo of Coke? Just the while bottle shape on a red background or vice-versa, reminds the world about the leading brand in the bottled cold beverage.
It took many years for the company to arrive at the present bottle shape which by itself promotes the brand. The image below shows the evolution of the current shape of the bottle.
In 1899, the first bottle –in a cylindrical shape looked more like a fashioned perfume bottle. Then in 1900 it adopted the milk bottle design which was changed in 1915 into a shape to which much iteration were made to finally come up with the shape it has now. Though the change was rapid in the beginning, it took 75 years for the coke bottle to take this form from the third design they formed.
This design of the packaging has been used widely in their advertising to promote their product. (This is something that even their best competitor has not used). Such is the benefit of unique packaging. Consumers will remember the brand at the sight of it. Once he is in the retail shop, this packaging will capture his attention in no time and thus increase the possibilities of sales.
