The Flexible Olympic Logo

The 2012 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in London (England), next year from 27 July to 12 August. The logo for the grand occasion has been designed by Wolf Olins and costs about 400,000 pounds. This new logo design is a representation of the digits in the year 2012 with the Olympic Rings embedded within.
For the first time, the Olympics logo is going to be used for both Olympic and Paralympic games. The standard colours that the logo will appear are green, magenta, orange and blue. The logo is, however, flexible enough to incorporate many other colours as well to enable sponsors to merge their corporate colours and create a personalized version of the same logo.
There was another logo created for the bidding process which was created by the Kino Design (this is not the brand identity of the Olympic Games). This logo shows a ribbon with blue, yellow, black, green,. And red stripes twisting around the letters and digits in ‘LONDON 2012”. The ribbon depicts the shape of the River Thames in London.

Black and White Logos

Logos as a visual representation of the company has a lot more to it than a simple design or image. Trying to make maximum impact through specially crafted idea in a simple design needs a lot of creativity. There are renowned logos which has found the way to people’s mind through simplicity. Here are some examples of out-of-the-box creativity in simple black and white logo which has used the white space to its best.
This is the WWF logo. The giant panda in black and white was first designed in1961 and went through a few iterations before the current logo was 2000.
The Egg and Spoon logo is one of the best example to show ideas at work. The starting letter (of “Egg and Spoon) is the logo, but look carefully and you find that the whole idea is conveyed through just one letter. (You didn’t miss the egg and a spoon in the ‘e’ did you?)
Wiesinger Music logo is simple and cute, but it is a very clever idea of using black and white to create ‘W’ and ‘M’ to form the shape of the keys in a Piano. What else can be a perfect logo for a piano service institution?
